Courses, concerts and workshops organized by: Il Teatro della Memoria
Artistic direction: Claudia Celi and Andrea Toschi

Programs

Games and pastimes, in all their forms connected to music and dance, will be the common theme of L’Humor Bizzarro 2015, the established international rendezvous that has reached its 14th edition, also this year hosted by the historical Scuola Popolare di Musica di Testaccio. As is by now tradition, the work of the various classes will merge in a final performance featuring the interaction between students and teachers and open to the general public.

Singing and Instrumental Courses

All those that enroll in a singing or instrumental course will be admitted free of charge to the Ensemble Music Workshop and to the Qi Gong Seminar.

Renaissance and Baroque Singing –  Rosanna Rossoni
The course is addressed towards anyone interested in the study of the psychomotorial aspects of vocal emission and of the stylistic and interpretative aspects of the Renaissance and Baroque repertory; it features individual and collective classes. Part of the course will focus on the works by Claudio Monteverdi. Registered students may also agree with the teacher on other pieces proposed by them. It’s also possible, for already formed vocal groups, to study in depth the technical aspects of the ensemble music practice.

Recorder – Marco Rosa Salva
“Chiama questo suo giuoco empio e profano / saravanda e ciaccona il novo ispano.” Variations on ostinatos for Recorder or Recorder ensemble.
The course is open to students of any level and will deal specifically with: recercadas on Italian tenors by Diego Ortiz; 17th century sonatas on the ciaccona, passacaglia and other famous ostinatos; grounds by Henry Purcell and English divisions (enrolled students can receive beforehand some of the course materials). A certain number of replicas of historical instruments will be avaiable for the ensemble class.

Renaissance Lute and Baroque Guitar – Federico Marincola
The course is open to beginners as well as to advanced students and will focus on technical and interpretative aspects of the Renaissance lute and Baroque guitar repertory. Students of classical guitar wishing to approach the early music repertory on their instrument will also be admitted.

Mandolin – Fabio Menditto
The course is mainly oriented towards an initial level. Some instruments will be available for individual study so it’s not necessary to bring one. For those that can already read music, one of the historical methods will be adopted. For those that have some difficulty in reading music, a practical approach will be offered in order to obtain, at the end of the week, a good posture and the possibility to practice and perform rhythms and chords. The teacher is available for all those who, having already a basic technique, want to explore specific themes in the classic or in the popular repertory (blues, jazz, choro, dance music, etc.).

Baroque Oboe – Angela Paletta
The course is open to amateurs or professionals who wish to approach the baroque and classical repertory with a period instrument or with a modern one. The program will focus on performing and interpretative aspects and on reed building tecniques. Particular attention will be given to the study of breathing with specially aimed QiGong exercises. Individual and collective classes will aim to the study of the soloistic and chamber repertory of the period, both sacred and profane, possibly in conjunction with singing, dance or theatre classes. It’s possible to agree with the teacher on a special repertory proposed by the student. A limited number of study instruments – kindly supplied by the maker Alberto Ponchio (website anciuti.com) – will be available for the class; students are therefore advised, if possible, to bring their own instrument.

Harpsichord Accompaniment – Paolo Tagliapietra
Harmony at the keyboard for beginners. Introduction to the extemporaneous performance of short accompaniments on a figured bass. Practical applications to pieces studied in the singing, instrument and ensemble music courses, aimed at taking part in the final performance. The student must previously possess a basic keyboard technique as well as a certain practice in the simplest harmonic connections.

Ensemble Music Workshop (free of charge for those that enroll in a singing or instrumental course)
Also this year the ensemble study will involve the students from the various classes in a common work aimed to the final performance. In accordance with the theme of the workshop, canons and other playful pieces of the Renaissance and Baroque will be rehearsed. The students will be subdivided in groups in consideration of the individual technical level and reading ability.
