Course program and teacher’s curriculum

English music from the second half of the 17th century.
The course is open to students of any level and will deal specifically with music by John Jenkins, Matthew Locke, Henry Purcell, John Blow. Individual lessons and ensemble consort classes will be featured (a number of replicas of historical instruments will be avaiable). For the individual lessons, students can suggest pieces of their choice, also different from the main theme of the course.
 

Marco Rosa Salva studied recorder with Aldo Bova in Venice and with Pedro Memelsdorff in Bologna, where he also graduated with a dissertation of Musical Dramaturgy. He has achieved a vast concert activity, collaborating with many medieval, Renaissance and baroque ensembles, such as Sonatori della Gioiosa Marca, Accademia di S. Rocco – Venice Baroque Orchestra, Cappella Ducale di Venezia, Pastime, Ensemble Antonio Draghi, Cappella della Pietà dei Turchini, L’Aura Soave, Il Complesso Barocco, Consort Veneto, I Barocchisti, Delitiae Musicae, Il Viaggio Musicale, La Venexiana, En Chordais, Cantar Lontano, performing in Italy, Europe, Turkey, United States, Mexico, China, in festivals among which Megaron Musica (Thessaloniki), Silk Road Festival, (Hong Kong), Gubbio Arte Medievale, Festival de Sablè, Settimane musicali al Teatro Olimpico (Vicenza), St. Galler Festspiel, Tage alter Musik (Regensburg), Lufthansa Festival (London), Festival di Cremona, Trentomusicantica, Notti malatestiane (Rimini). He has recorded for RAI, ORF and for the labels Stradivarius, Echo, Fonit Cetra, Tactus, Nuova Era, Skira, Naxos, Opus 111, Glossa. With the ensemble La Girometta (as a player of recorder and director) he deals in particular with the reconstruction of Italian 15th  Century dance music, producing shows, masterclasses and lecture demonstrations. He teaches at Scuola di Musica Antica di Venezia since 1993 where, since 1998, he holds the post of director; he teaches courses and seminars at several Conservatories in Italy and abroad and at Italian Universities.

Ilaria 2“Cupid’s Garden – Le Jardin de Cupidon” – Dances and Contredanses in England and France between the 17th & 18th century
The course is aimed towards dancers, musicians and whoever wishes to approach or to further the knowledge of baroque dance technique.  The theoretical and practical classes feature warm-up, study of basic choreutic technique and of choreographies, mainly reconstructed from the Beauchamp–Feuillet notation; part of the classes will be devoted to questions pertaining sources, dance notation and treatises, choreographic repertory, giving a particular attention to the connection and integration between music and dance, with reference to problems of performance of dance music. During the course, the choreographic  and
musical correspondences, borrowings and  influences between England and France will be investigated through the study of choreographies by André Lorrin, Mr. Isaac and John Essex. The choregraphic numbers will be chosen by the teacher according to the level and the needs of the participants.

Rhetorical Gesture Seminar
The seminar is aimed towards singers, dancers, actors, musicians and whoever is interested in the repertory of musical theatre of the 17th and 18th centuries. It offers to the students a further tool for performing such repertory through an in depth examination of the typical features of baroque theatre, of rhetorical gesture and of themes such as the stage proxemics, the roles and typical characters, the theory of affections.

Ilaria Sainato graduated in Musicology at the Università degli studi di Pavia-Cremona, with a dissertation in Phylology about Italian dance of the Quattrocento. She has studied Renaissance and Baroque dance with Veronique Daniels, Barbara Sparti, Deda Cristina Colonna, Ana Yepes. She teaches Renaissance dancing at Scuola di Musica Antica di Venezia and gives courses and theoretical-practical seminars at schools, institutions and associations in Italy and abroad. She organizes shows about dance of the 15th to 17th Century in collaboration with several ensembles and companies; in particular with La Girometta she deals with the reconstruction of Italian dance repertory of the Quattrocento and Cinquecento from the original treatise sources taking in to account their musical concordances. She has extended her research to problems in reconstructing 17th and 18th Century theatrical performance with music, in particular regarding staging and gesture, collaborating to several stage productions such as  Don Giovanni by W. A. Mozart, Il Ballo delle Ingrate by C. Monteverdi, La Fida Ninfa by A. Vivaldi, Atalanta Fugiens by M. Maier, Flavio Cuniberto by G. D. Partenio; she has also directed this latter. She has been assistant direcctor for: Mulier Fortis by J. B. Staut, The Fairy Queen by E. Purcell and Così fan tutte by W. A. Mozart (directed by Deda Cristina Colonna), Madama Butterfly and Turandot by G. Puccini (directed by Hiroki Ihara), Rigoletto by G. Verdi (directed by Ivan Stefanutti), Sonnambula by V.Bellini (directed by Stefano Vizioli). She collaborates with As.Li.Co. – Teatro Sociale di Como as Stage Manager.

Registration & insurance fee

  • with advance payment up to June 30th 60.00 euros

Members of specified Schools and Societies with a reduction agreement and students enrolled in more than one course are entitled to a discount of 40.00 euros.

The basic tuition fee for singing and instrument courses covers individual lessons, collective lessons and the Qi Gong Seminar. The fee for dancing courses covers the collective lessons and the Qi Gong Seminar.

Principal courses:

  • Music courses (singing or instrument, inclusive of ensemble workshop): 270.00 euros
  • Dancing courses (12 hours): 140.00 euros

Supplementary courses:

  • Six individual singing or instrument lessons (30 minutes each): 180.00 euros
  • Rhetorical Gesture Seminar: 90.00 euros

Registered students are insured against accidents during lessons with a maximum cover of 50,000.00 euros. Check with your health insurance company and your national health system about coverage in Italian hospitals in case of illness. If you have any doubts, contact us and we’ll try to find information on the arrangements with your country and the documents you need. Humor Bizzarro 2015: Fabio Menditto – Mandolin

Course program and teacher’s CV

The course is mainly oriented towards an initial level. Some instruments will be available for individual study so it’s not necessary to bring one. For those that can already read music, one of the historical methods will be adopted. For those that have some difficulty in reading music, a practical approach will be offered in order to obtain, at the end of the week, a good posture and the possibility to practice and perform rhythms and chords. The teacher is available for all those who, having already a basic technique, want to explore specific themes in the classic or in the popular repertory (blues, jazz, choro, dance music, etc.).

Fabio Menditto started his musical studies with Maestro Ugo Orlandi at the Padua Conservatory “Cesare Pollini”, where he obtained his diploma with brlilliant marks. He conducts an intense artistic activity as a performer as well as a teacher. As a soloist he has played for chamber and orchestral ensembles for important Italian musical Institutions (Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI, Accademia Filarmonica Romana, etc.). Abroad he has performed many concerts in Spain, France, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Slovakia, Greece, Pakistan, Portugal, South Korea. He has recorded several early music CD’s for the French label “P: Verany”  and a monographic record about R. Calace for the label “Qbforme”. Dedicated to the re-discovery and performance of music originally composed for mandolin and plucked instrument orchestra, he has been artistic director of Circolo Mandolinistico Costantino Bertucci. He collaborated with RAI for radio programs concerning the cultured music repertory for mandolin. He is professor of Mandolin at the Naples Conservatory  “San Pietro a Majella” and has held international masterclasses for Accademia Leonardo da Vinci at Catanzaro, for Centro Musicale Calabrese “Francesco Cilea” and abroad for Società Artistica Rojana at Logrono (Spain). He has edited several publications about the original mandolin repertory, among which an anthology of compositions for voice and mandolin for the publisher FLATUS ad the method La moderna scuola del mandolino for the publisher “Qbforme”.

Humor Bizzarro 2015: Federico Marincola, Renaissance lute and Baroque guitar

Course program and teacher’s curriculum

The course is open to beginners as well as advanced students and will focus on technical and interpretative aspects of Renaissance lute and Baroque guitar repertory. Students of classical guitar wishing to approach the early music repertory on their instrument will also be admitted.

Federico Marincola, born in Rome, after studying classical guitar has followed the Lute courses at the  “Sweelinck” Conservatory in  Amsterdam and at the Royal College of Music in London. Afterwards he graduated summa cum laude at the faculty of Sociology of the Università di Urbino and obtained his diploma in Lute with the highest marks at the Conservatorio S. Cecilia in Rome. He also obtained a diploma in Singing at the Music Conservatory of Menton (France). For more than twenty years has carried out an intense concert activity in Europe, Asia and the Americas as a soloist, in ensembles and in orchestras. In addition to many recordings with distinguished orchestras and ensembles he has recorded several CD’s as a soloist of lute and Renaissance guitar for the label Verany-Arion. These last works have been enthusiastically received by the international critics and the French magazine Diapason has recognized him as one of the leading performers in the field of Renaissance lute discography.

“Chiama questo suo giuoco empio e profano / saravanda e ciaccona il novo ispano.” Variations on ostinatos for Recorder or Recorder ensemble.
The course is open to students of any level and will deal specifically with: recercadas on Italian tenors by Diego Ortiz; 17th century sonatas on the
ciaccona, passacaglia and other famous ostinatos; grounds by Henry Purcell and English divisions (enrolled students can receive beforehand some of the course materials). A certain number of replicas of historical instruments will be avaiable for the ensemble class.
