The course, following a historical and aesthetic path, addresses both beginners and advanced students who want to approach or further the study and practice of the historical trombone. The period that will be examined will be that from the Renaissance to Baroque, not excluding extensions and connections with other periods. Aspects relating to performance practice, technical problems, historical and aesthetical adherence to the repertories will be taken in consideration, as well as themes such as articulation and phrasing on the basis of witnesses and indications from period treatises. The course is also open to modern trombone players wishing to perform the early music repertory with their instrument.

MAURO MORINI obtained his Diploma at the Conservatorio “F. Morlacchi” in Perugia with  C. Menci, studying subsequently with B. Slokar, E. Bezalel, R. Sauer, P. Goodwin and, for early music, with D. Bellugi at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, with B. Dickey and Ch. Toet at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana (Honourable Mention) and at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis – Hochschule für Alte Musik in Basel. He has developed an intense artistic activiy in Italy and in many countries of Europe, the Mediterranean basin and Northern and Southern America. He regularly performs in major concert halls and for international festivals with prestigious ensembles and internationally outstanding conductors. With the modern trombone he has ranged from chamber to lyrical-symphonic orchestral repertory and to jazz formations. His interest for the early music repertory and for historical instruments has brought him to devote a large part of his activity to this sector, ranging from the late Middle Ages to the 19th century. In this very sector he has taught seminars at the Conservatories of Rovigo, Brescia and Novara, he has taught at the Early Music Department of the  Conservatorio di Ferrara and at the Perfecting courses of Rovigo Musica Antica in 2010 and 2012. He plays several instruments that are representative of the history and evolution of the trombone: buisine, tromba da tirarsi, historical (Renaissance, baroque, classical) trombone, serpent, bass trumpet with rotary valves and 19th century trombone with rotary valves. He has recorded for TV and radio broadcasters and for several discographic editions that won acclaim from the specialized press as well as international prizes and awards such as: 5 Goldberg, 10 Répertoire, ffff Télérama, Choc du Disque, Diapason d’or de l’année 2005, Gramophone Award 2008. He holds the Trombone teaching chair at the Conservatorio “F. Venezze” in Rovigo; he also teaches the same subject at the Conservatorio “L. Cherubini” in Florence.
