Saturday 20 December at the Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri Basilica in Rome
Among the many Christmas concerts that are being produced in Roman churches, this one stands out as it offers to the audience the possibility to listen to music rarely performed with period instruments. On this occasion the Sinfonias from Cantatas no. 42 and 35 by J.S. Bach will be performed by an ensemble featuring, alongside the strings and Continuo, also the Baroque Oboe, the Oboe da Caccia and the Baroque Bassoon, all with tone colours quite different from their modern counterparts. The same instruments will enrich the performance of Vivaldi’s Magnificat and of the arresting motet for double choir “Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied” BWV225 by Bach. The evening will close with the chorus “For unto us a child is born” from Haendel’s Messiah. The series Organo in Festa a Natale in which the concert appears will continue in the same venue on December 24 and 25.
