Become a Rising Star of the Enlightenment

The Rising Stars Of the Enlightenment is our programme for brilliant young vocal talent – a cohort of eight emerging singers, two from each category of voice, who take the stage with the Orchestra and feature prominently in our programming for two artistic seasons.

We are now looking for eight new singers to feature in the our exciting plans for 2019-2021. This includes our Bach, the Universe and Everything series at Kings Place and regular appearances at Southbank Centre and on international tour. Current Rising Stars include James Newby, who is a BBC New Generation Artist and Charlotte Shaw, who recently accompanied us on our Toyota Classics tour of Southeast Asia.

Our Rising Stars programme is part of a broader commitment to nurturing the next generation of performing artists. It sits alongside our well-established Experience scheme for instrumentalists where gifted and aspirational players are welcomed into our ranks, many of whom graduate to become regular members of the ensemble.

Please apply with a CV, completed application form (with one reference), completed equal opportunities monitoring form and one video recording (presented by Youtube, Vimeo etc) of a recent (within 6 months) recording of a work of Bach or Handel by 31 Jan 2019.

Application Schedule

First Calls: 8 & 9 March 2019

• Candidates elect preference for one of the two dates.
• Candidates supply own pianist.
• Repertoire: One baroque (Bach or Handel) aria, one classical aria.

Second Calls: 20 March 2019

• Pianist provided
• Repertoire: One aria from a Bach cantata, one aria from a Handel oratorio (but not the Messiah), one classical aria.

Final Calls: 21 March 2019

• Pianist provided
• One aria from a Bach cantata, one aria from a Handel oratorio (but not the Messiah), one classical aria, one English song

Each work presented may be repeated once in the audition process (not including the video submission).
