At Fondazione Cini in Venice From bharata natyam to contemporary dance techniques
Continuing a research path already started with Carolyn Carlson in 2009, the Istituto Interculturale di Studi Musicali Comparati at Fondazione Giorgio Cini has just announced a new project curated by Vito Di Bernardi and directed towards the exploration of new languages and contaminations betwewn the practices of traditional extra-European dance and western contemporary dance. A notice has been published in order to select 20 professional or semi-professional dancers (experience of at least two years in a dance troupe is required) who will take part in a masterclass given by Anglo-Indian dancer and choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh on 4-5 November 2015 in the prestigious seat of the Fondazione at Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice.
The applications (to be sent not later than 15 September following the directions in the official notice) will be examined by Prof. Vito Di Bernardi – teacher of Dance History at Università di Roma “La Sapienza” – and by Prof. Giovanni Giuriati – teacher of Ehtnomusicology at Università di Roma “La Sapienza” and Director of Istituto Interculturale di Studi Musicali Comparati – jointly with the masterclass teacher. The first ten selected candidates will be offered a scholarship that includes the attendance fee and room and board (breakfast and lunch) at the Residenza del Centro Internazionale di Studi Vittore Branca (in single rooms for a maximum of three nights). Ten more candidates will be offered free attendance, lunches and the possibility to lodge at a reduced rate at Centro Vittore Branca.
