European Union Baroque Orchestra announces its 2016 audition courses

An opportunity for young players of historical instruments

Since its onset during the 1985 European Music Year, the European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO) has provided young musicians with a unique opportunity to train through intensive rehearsal periods and concert tours with an orchestra specialized in the baroque repertory. Continuing this tradition, EUBO has announced its European co-operation project EUBO Mobile Baroque Academy (EMBA), co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.

For the year 2016 the project will start with two residential audition-courses – each one lasting four days and located in Echternach (Luxembourg) – the first one from April 5 to 8, the second from April 8 to 11. In order to be admitted, it’s possible to apply from 18 January  to 18 March 2016 using the application kit that can be obtained by writing to Communications Manager Noora Heiskanen at info@eubo.eu. Applicants – players of violins, violas, cellos, double basses, oboes, bassoons or harpsichords on a baroque instrument tuned at A=415Hz – must be EU nationals over 18 years of age and born after 1 January 1986.

Selections at the Academy of Ancient Music

The ensemble, specialized in Baroque and Classical repertory, has announced auditions for instrumentalists and singers

Founded by da Christopher Hogwood in 1973, the Academy of Ancient Music is one of the most prestigious ensembles specialized in performance with historical instruments at the international level. This is the announcement recently published on the Vacancies page of their website:

The AAM will be holding auditions and an ensemble workshop with AAM Principals on 14 – 16 March 2016.  Please send in your CV to info@aam.co.uk by 9am on Monday 1 February 2016 in order to be considered.  Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by Friday 19 February 2016 with their audition time slot and details of what should be prepared in advance of the ensemble workshop.

We welcome applications from instrumentalists and singers.

Since its foundation during the 1985 European Music Year, the European Union Baroque Orchestra has provided young musicians with a unique opportunity to train through intensive rehearsal periods and concert tours with an orchestra specialized in the baroque repertory. After one year of interruption in the courses due to a change in the rules for European Community financial support, this year the orchestra launches a new European larger scale cooperation project EUBO Mobile Baroque Academy (EMBO) featuring two residential audition-courses – each one lasting three days and located in Echternach (Luxembourg) – the first one from 29 July to 1 August and the second from 1 to 4 August 2015.

Applicant musicians – players of violins, violas, cellos, double basses, oboes, bassoons or harpsichords (baroque instrument tuned at A=415Hz) – must be EU nationals born after 1 January 1985. At the end of the courses members of EMBO 2015 will be selected and will take part in concert tours and other activities from September 2015 to May 2016, under the direction of Music Director Lars Ulrik Mortensen and other artists. Centro di Musica Antica Pietà de’ Turchini will select young players of historical strings

The Youth Ensemble in Naples – December 2012

The Centro di Musica Antica Pietà de’ Turchini in Naples has scheduled, in order to fill the roster of its historical instruments youth ensemble founded in October 2012, a series of auditions in Naples and Milan for the 2013-14 season. The auditions – open to players of violin, viola, cello, lute and theorbo, double bass, born in 1979 and later – will be held:

  • on 20 June 2013 in Milan in the audition room of  VIVIENDA (Via Murat, 84) from 10AM to 5PM
  • on 24 June 2013 in Naples (Church of Santa Caterina da Siena) from 10AM to 6PM.

Candidates will be asked to play a free 15 minute program, then to sight-read a piece after a short study. The deadline for applications – written according to the official regulations – is 15 June 2013. Selected candidates will be entered in a classification list from which the personnel for the productions of the ensemble will be drawn. In the September to November 2013 period  three courses are planned, ending with the performance of the serenata Gli Orti Esperidi by Nicola Antonio Porpora.

A selection for 16 young players of historical instruments in Naples

Centro di Musica Antica Pietà de’ Turchini will form a youth ensemble

Next September the Centro di Musica Antica Pietà de’ Turchini in Naples and the Conservatories of Messina, Foggia and Milano will audition young players who will be selected for a course, with the aim of forming a youth orchestral ensemble with historical instruments. Candidates must perform a free 15 minutes program.

Organized in collaboration with the Conservatories of Messina, Foggia and Lecce, the course will start in October 2012. In order to obtain for scholarships, candidates must apply before August 31st in accordance with the official regulations.
