In a historical Tuscan hamlet a weekend workshop organized by Il Teatro della Memoria in collaboration with Filarmonica Giuseppe Verdi and Pro Loco Montemerano

PROGRAM

The Masterclass is open to lute or guitar students of any level who wish to approach the repertory from the 16th, 17th and 18th century. Technical and interpretative aspects of the Renaissance Lute, the Theorbo, the Archlute, the Baroque Guitar and of the German Baroque Lute will be dealt with. Individual lessons will be scheduled during the morning and lute ensemble classes on Renaissance and early 17th century in the afternoon/evening.

Fees and regulations

Masterclass fees:

• “early bird” fee with payment before January 19th 2024: €140
• after January 10th 2024: €165

Students enrolled in partner schools and residents of the local Municipality will be granted a discount of €10.

The payment can be made:

• by credit card on this page;
• by bank transfer to the account # 67/494577 at Banca Fideuram (IBAN code IT44R0329601601000067494577) in the name of “Il Monocordo di Andrea Toschi”. If you are within SEPA (Single Euro Payment Area) be sure to use the “shared fees” option so that you’ll be charged the same commission as a national transfer.
• If you are outside SEPA write us and we will arrange for a transfer through another platform.

After the payment, fill the enrolment form.

The Masterclass has a maximum number of eight places. Students will be enrolled according to the order of arrival of the registration form. Those that cannot be admitted because the maximum has been reached will be promptly informed, and the amount paid will be refunded. Should a minimum number of registrations be not reached, the masterclass will be cancelled, and the amount paid will be refunded. No amount will be refunded in case of cancellation by the student.

Travel Info

By car: from Rome take the A12 Highway (E80) up to Tarquinia, then SS1 Aurelia to Montalto di Castro, SP105 to Manciano and lastly SP159. From other starting points you’ll find the best route on Google Maps (coordinates 42.621550, 11.491170).

By train: the nearest station is Orbetello on the Roma-Livorno line. Let us know when you arrive and we’ll arrange to pick you up. Timetables are available on the Trenitalia website.

In Montemerano it’s possible to see the Chiesa di San Giorgio with wonderful Quattrocento frescoes and the Madonna della Gattaiola painting. It’s also possible to visit the medieval town center, recently recognized as one of “The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy”. Nearby are the open air thermal waterfall Cascate del Mulino and the spa resort Terme di Saturnia.

Manifesta precocemente le sue inclinazioni musicali . Appassionatosi al repertorio antico decide di dedicarsi al liuto studiando con M. Pesci e A. Damiani, terminando brillantemente i suoi studi al Conservatorio di musica “S. Cecilia” di Roma nel 2009. Nel 2012 termina il Master di liuto specializzandosi in chitarra barocca e tiorba con R. Lislevand nella “Musik Hochschule” di Trossingen. Ha frequentato numerose masterclass internazionali tenute da P. O’Dette, J. Lindberg e N. North. Vanta un’intensa carriera concertistica e varie collaborazioni con ensembles di musica antica e Fondazioni teatrali quali: Arena di Verona, Teatro la Fenice, Cameristi della Scala, i Barocchisti, “Concerto Romano” diretto dal Mo. A. Quarta, “Accademia Bizantina” diretto da Mo. Ottavio Dantone, “Abchordis” diretto da Mo. Andrea Buccarella, “Concerto de’ Cavalieri” diretto da Mo. Di Lisa, “Arte musica” diretto da Mo. F. Cera, “L’Estravagante” diretto da Mo. S. Montanari, “Auser Musici” diretto da Mo. Carlo Ipata, “Swiss Baroque Soloists”, “Pera ensemble”, “Cappella Tiberina”. Si è esibito nell’ambito dei più prestigiosi festival e rassegne tra cui: Tager Alte Musik in Herne (Germania), Monteverdi Festival, Wiener Konzerthaus (Austria), Internationale Barocktage Stift Melk (Austria), Malgartner Kloster Konzerte (Germania), Festival internazionale W.A. Mozart a Rovereto, Rheingau Musik Festival (Germania), Festival Internazionale di Musica Antica di Urbino, Antiqua Festival (Spagna) e Roma Festival Barocco. Nel 2010 è selezionato per l’orchestra barocca dell’unione europea (EUBO), con la quale ha svolto concerti in numerosi paesi europei. Già giovanissimo, ha avuto la fortuna e l’onore di poter suonare in molte delle sale da concerto più famose d’Europa: Konzerthaus a Vienna, Musikverein (Vienna), Casa da Musica (Porto), Herkuleszaal di Monaco (Germania), Auditorium Santa Cecilia di Roma, Teatro dell’opera di Kharkov (Ucraina) e Philarmonie di Kiev, Tiroler Landestheaters di Innsbruck e molti altri. Con il gruppo “Cappella Tiberina” registra per la casa discografica “Brilliant Classics” i XII Concerti per flauto dolce di Mancini, con il gruppo “Concerto Romano” i cd “Luther in Rom” e “Sacred Music for the poor” per la casa discografica Christophorus. Effettua, inoltre, registrazioni radiofoniche per la Radio Vaticana, WDR radio tedesca, ORF radio austriaca ed ha collaborato a registrazioni televisive per la rete RAI International. Attualmente è attivo come continuista nell’accompagnamento di cantanti e strumentisti di fama ed emergenti, nonché come esecutore solista, al liuto, tiorba e chitarra spagnola. Con il gruppo da lui fondato “Ricercare Antico” ha registrato il CD monografico su G. Caccini, “Le Nuove Musiche” uscito nel marzo 2019 per “Brilliant Classics” e un CD su musica barocca inedita, sulla compositrice romana Francesca Campana e la famiglia Rossi uscito nel 2021. Nel 2022 pubblica per la “Da Vinci publishing” il cd “A Due Leuti” con musiche italiane e elisabettiane per 2 liuti.
