The magic of Duduk

Trio Dabaghyan will perform at the Giardini della Filarmonica Romana

After Norway and Austria, on July 4th the concert series Nazioni in festa at Filarmonica Romana presents an afternoon and evening – organized in collaboration with the Embassy of the Armenian Republic in Italy – devoted to classic and traditional music from Armenia. At 6.00 PM the film I figli dell’Ararat by Piero Marrazzo will be screened, followed at 8.00 PM by the concert La voce dell’Armenia performed by Lilit Khachatryan (pianoforte) and Agnessa Gyurdzhyan (soprano).
At 9.45 PM the Trio Dabaghyan, formed by Gevorg Dabaghyan and Emmanuel Hovhannisyan (duduk) and Kamo Khachatryan (dhol) will perform in the typical formation for dance accompaniment with two duduk, cylindrical aerophones with double reed, and one dhol, cylindrical membranophone with two heads. According to the traditional practice, one of the two duduk performers plays the melody while the other plays a drone with a fixed note and the dhol supplies the rhythmic pulse.

On this occasion the Accademia Filarmonica will offer reduced tickets to the readers of this blog: writing to promozione@filarmonicaromana.org it’s possible to buy the ticket for one of the two concerts at 8.00 euro instead of 10; for the full Armenia day (two concerts) at 15.00 euro.
