The Junior Company of the Dutch National Ballet will offer a part-time contract
Up to 14 December 2013 it’s possible to send an application letter to the HR Department that will invite the candidates to the audition held on 14 or 16 January 2014. The initial weeky work schedule will be of 2 hour with the National Ballet Academy and 5 hours with the Junior Company, with a possible increase later. An essential requirement for the job will be the capacity to improvise within the classical music idiom.
The Junior Company represents a bridge between the training with the National Ballet Academy and the full professional activity in the Dutch National Ballet. This is the complete text of the job announcement as published on the Junior Company’s website:
The Junior Company and the National Ballet Academy, are jointly looking for a professional
to accompany class, rehearsals and other dance classes within the Junior Company and the National Ballet Academy.
As a pianist of the Junior Company as well as of the National Ballet Academy, you are accompanying dance classes, workshops, study projects, studio rehearsals and occasionally performances. Where necessary you will arrange existing repertoire for piano rehearsals. You may also be asked to work during Open Day presentations of the Junior Company, Open Days of de Theaterschool and to accompany auditions and presentations or performances of students.
In daily practice the pianist has a relationship with the Artistic Coordinator of the Junior Company, the teacher/ballet master with whom he/she works to achieve the educational and artistic programme of the Junior Company and the school. In the Junior Company he/she stands hierarchically under the Music Director of the Dutch National Ballet.
We are looking for someone with a classical piano degree from a conservatory preferably with some experience in the accompaniment of ballet classes. An ability to improvise within the classical music idiom is essential. The variety of repertoire, activities and timetables call for someone who is flexible and has the capacity to accommodate different artistic aesthetics.
We offer two jobs in one function: one appointment with The Amsterdam Music Theatre for the work for the Junior Company, and one appointment with de Theaterschool for the National Ballet Academy. The amount of hours for the Junior Company will initially be 5 hours a week. Usually class is given in the morning, including some Saturdays. The appointment with the National Ballet Academy is for 2 hours a week with the expectation that more hours will be offered after summer 2014. The Amsterdam Music Theatre and the National Ballet Academy are within walking distance of each other.
Both organizations have their own collective employment conditions with interesting benefits. The salary on full-time basis lies between € 2.500,00 and circa € 3.400,00 gross per month. Pianists work flexible hours, including weekend days. The precise terms of the contract are open to negotiation.
We are willing to invest in upcoming talent.
