Oregon Bach Festival website has announced a selection for the 2016 training course in historical instruments orchestra (baroque and classical era) at Berwick Academy (University of Oregon). Selected candidates will take part in training activities and concerts in the period from 15 June and 6 July 2016, with tuition and all expenses for board and accommodation paid; travel expenses to and from the course location are not covered. These are the programs of the concerts that will feature the orchestra:

  • Program 1: A concert of late Classical era works including symphonies by Mendelssohn and Schubert and the Weber Clarinet Concerto No. 1, Eric Hoeprich, clarinet, Matthew Halls, conductor
  • Program 2: Keyboardist Robert Levin conducts and performs repertory from the peak of the Classical era featuring works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Haydn.
  • Program 3: The final concert features conductor and violinist Rachel Podger in a baroque program still to be announced.

The deadline for applications (by filling the form on the Festival website) is 2 November. In order to ensure the widest participation at the international level, selections will be made by video: candidates must send a link to a YouTube clip containing a performance of two contrasting movements or pieces played on a historically appropriate instrument tuned to A=415 or 430. The application must also enclose a letter of recommendation from a university, institution, or other professional reference.
