First Prize: 800 Pounds and a recital during the 2014 Royal Greenwich International Festival and Exhibition of Early Music

The prestigious Society of Recorder Players  – founded in 1937 by Carl Dolmetsch and  Edgar Hunt – has announced its 2013 competition for young recorder soloists, organized in collaboration with Moeck UK and the Early Music Shop. In order to be admitted to the first selection round, competitors must be under 30 years of age on the date of November 1st 2013 and must submit before March 31st 2013 three copies of a CD with a 30 minute program. The recordings should show a cross-section of the different facets of the recorder and its repertoire and must include the set work Meditation for Alto Recorder Solo by Ryohei Hirose.

Selected finalists will be invited to perform a 45 minutes program in front of the adjudicators and a public audience during the 2013 Royal Greenwich International Festival and Exhibition of Early Music, which usually takes place during November. Set work for the finals will be Fantasia No. 6 in F minor by G. Ph. Telemann. The adjudicators will be David Bellugi, Rachel Brown and Steven Devine.

The winner will receive a sum of 800 British Pounds – donated by Moeck UK and by Early Music Shop – and the opportunity to perform a solo recital during the 2014 Royal Greenwich International Festival and Exhibition of Early Music. Other cash prizes will be awarded by the Society of Recorder Players.
